Goal Digger

It's almost July 1 - which means that the year is halfway to done. Crazy, right?!  I am regularly amazed at how fast time seems to roll by these days vs. when I was younger. It probably has something to do with the fact that when we're young we are way more present than we are as adults… but I digress.

What I really want to talk about is goals.
Most of us use the New Year as a time to set goals and state our intentions because it feels like a natural starting point. I am definitely a January 1 kind of girl, although I firmly believe that any day of the year is a good one to instigate change. However it's helpful to periodically check in with your goals and do a little progress report. This year I've been falling behind in the check-in department so I'm launching a personal mid-year review.I went back to my journal to be reminded of my intentions for the year and to check on where I have been and what I have done in the past six months. In the "wins" category were launching my new website, finishing multiple writing projects, joining a business mastermind group, walking 3-4 miles nearly every day and getting my insomnia into a pretty healthy remission. Plus I completely got off of prescription sleep aids - woohoo! Then there are the goals that started off like gangbusters - namely journaling and meditating - that started derailing around mid-April. Instead of beating myself up about it or throwing in the towel, I am quietly getting back on track and picking up where I left off. I also fell a little behind in my intention to blog every 2 weeks, but here I am - back in the saddle.

Revisiting and reassessing my goals allows me a chance to see if and why those things are still important to me.

If they aren't then it creates space for new goals and if they are then I get an opportunity to devote myself to them all over again. For the rest of this year most of my goals remain the same: my meditation, journaling and blogging practices have all been rebooted, plus I am revisiting a Morning Pages exercise a la Julia Cameron.  Some kind of fitness every damn day will also continue. Since a few of my finite goals have been realized I've come up with a couple of new ones. De-cluttering my house is one of the biggest. To kick it off I am setting a "get rid of 30 bags of crap in 30 days" challenge starting on July 1 (#30bagsin30days - feel free to join me over on Instagram!). I also plan on refining my Audacious Health & Wellness offerings and trying some new ideas like an Audacious retreat in October on the Oregon coast (details still TBD but shoot me an email if you'd like to be on the first to know list)! My goals include things that feel new and adventurous as well as things that I know will help me grow and stay focused.

Goals can be challenging because they are not always comfortable or fun. But they are always worth it.

What about you? Did you have New Year's goals and resolutions? Maybe you resolved to eat cleaner, be more active and/or cut out the sugar and refined carbs, or perhaps you were going to add more play into your daily life, write in your journal every morning or de-clutter and organize your basement. Do your goals need some reevaluating or rejuvenating? Do you need an accountability partner to help you stay on track?Check out the goals you set for yourself in January and do a little mid-year review of your own. Start with what you have achieved so far and don't forget to give yourself some kudos. Then go back and see what still wants to get done. Find a friend to share accountability with or if you want to bring in the big guns, book some time with me and together we will move some of your goals into the "wins" category.
